Artistes' Biography

 

Emma Dennis was born in Neath South Wales. She is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, after winning sponsorship from Channel Four Wales and a Royal Academy Bursary, and also the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, having won the Sir Geraint Evans Scholarship, graduating with distinction. Whilst at college Emma was quickly recognised as the ‘Most Promising Singer’ and was promptly awarded the ‘Della Windsor Memorial Award’. Amongst the above awards Emma also won the Daniel Davies Award, the ‘Laura Ashley Foundation Award’, the ‘Morriston Orpheus Choir Subscriber’s Association Award’ ‘MOCSA’ for ‘Best Young Singer of the Year’ - this prestigious prize has recognised some of the biggest names in the operatic world - and the much coveted Silver Medal from the Worshipful Company of Musicians.

                                                                                                

Steven Goulden is from Howden in East Yorkshire. He began his musical studies at Doncaster College on a Foundation Course in Music and then won a place at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama on the Performers Course where he graduated with distinction. His success was then further advanced when he was accepted on the Post Graduate Performers Course, where many awards and accolades soon followed including the Laura Ashley Prize, the Heber–Percy Scholarship, the Dolan Evans Award, a Grant from British Telecom and the William Appleby Prize. 

 

                                                                                                                    

As soloists Emma and Steven travel far and wide performing to venues such as the Wigmore Hall in London, the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham, St. David’s Hall in Cardiff, Llandaf and Wells Cathedrals, the Cheltenham Festival, the Brangwyn Hall in Swansea, the Royal Festival Hall in London the Southwark Festival in London and the Birmingham Symphony Hall to name but a few. They have taken part in many ‘Open-Air’ Opera Galas and Proms throughout the UK to great acclaim. They have sung under the baton of some of the finest conductors in the country including Steuart Bedford, John Lubbock, John Pryce-Jones and Sir Simon Rattle and Mark Elder with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Emma recently represented Wales in the Middle East, where she performed in the Welsh Assembly Governments Wales World Nation’ exhibition in Dubai.

 

 

 

Emma and Steven have performed numerous operatic roles. Emma’s include ‘Adina’ L’elisir d’amore, ‘Marenka’The Bartered Bride, ‘Lucy Lockit’ The Beggar’s Opera, (Britten’s Realisation) and ‘Pamina’ The Magic Flute as part of the Cardiff Festival. ‘Ellen Orford’ Peter Grimes, ‘Susanna’ Le Nozze di Figaro, the title role in ‘Manon’ (Massenet), ‘Anezka’ The Two Widows, ‘Fedra’ Egisto, ‘Frau Fluth’ Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor and ‘A Lover’ and ‘Voce di Sopranino’ Il Tabarro in a concert performance  with the CBSO at the Birmingham Symphony Hall conducted by Mark Elder. Steven’s roles include ‘Luigi’ Il Tabarro, ‘Nemorino’ L’elisir d’amore,Captain Macheath’ in Britten’s realisation of The Beggars Opera, the title role in Peter Grimes, ‘Tamino’ The Magic Flute and ‘Vašek’ The Bartered Bride for the Cardiff Festival. He also created the role of ‘Sergeant Forbes’ in the children’s opera Sam the Sparrow and the Coca-Cola Well by Mervyn Birch.

 

 

Emma and Steven are also keen Oratorio soloists. Their most recent performances include in Handel’s Messiah, Judas Maccabaeus and Samson, Mozart’s Requiem, Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Lobgesang, Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music, Faure’s Requiem, Schubert’s, Mass in E flat, Brahms’ Requiem, Scarlatti’s St. Cecilia Mass, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Rutter’s Requiem, Rossini’s Stabat Mater and Petite Messe Solennelle, Bach’s Magnificat and an authentic baroque performance of  Bach’s Cantata 51 'Jauchzet Gott in Allen Landen'.         

                                         

 

As well as their solo projects and performing with Amoré Emma and Steven toured the country throughout 2006, 07 and 08 as part of the vocal trio Amoroso in ‘Music of the Night’ and ‘A Night at the Proms’ performing songs, arias, duets and trios from the worlds of opera, operetta and musical theatre along with songs of the British Isles and traditional Last Night of the Proms favourites and also 'The Sound of Christmas' performing popular and classical Christmas favourites, songs, arias, duets and trios along with well loved carols.

 

                                                                                                                    

Emma and Steven first met whilst studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. They later joined forces as Amoré in 2004 and have been in great demand since then to perform in concerts, recitals, outdoor events, weddings and corporate functions. Recent performances include ‘Music in the Park’ at Spaldington Old Hall in Yorkshire, a very successful concert tour of Jersey where they give 24 performances and they have recently returned from the Seychelles where they guest starred onboard a luxury cruise liner on the Indian Ocean.

 

Future performances include a 'Midweek Music' concert at Christ Church Southport, a recital as part of the Doncaster Museum Lunchtime concert series and 'The Sound of Christmas' at the Shire Hall Howden, East Yorkshire.
